ABOUT
Sebastian is a passionate aviator. From being an airline pilot to a flight instructor for small aircraft, all the way to the simplest form – paragliding – he enjoys everything that gets him into the air. What fascinates him about paragliding is the wide range this sport has to offer. The Hike & Fly opportunities nowadays are incredible.
INTERVIEW
DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR FIRST FLIGHT? HOW WAS IT?
My first flight took place in Fanas. Of course, not in crisp spring thermals, but in winter. Although, as a child, I had already experimented with homemade paragliders made from old shower curtains, launching off my father's chicken coop. The actual flight phase was barely worth mentioning
WHat special MOMENTs DO YOU FLY for?
There are countless experiences. Whether it's soaring with vultures at 8:30 in the evening in the last evening thermal during the X-Pyr, flying against the impressive backdrop of the Eigertour in and around Grindelwald, launching from Mont Blanc, or circling the Cristo statue in Rio de Janeiro followed by a toplanding on Pedra Gavea – there are just too many highlights to name only one.
YOUR THREE TOP FLYING AREAS?
Bernese Oberland, especially the scenery around Grindelwald. The Eiger Tour was my first multi-day competition.
Davos, my hometown where I grew up. It's simply impressive to see the familiar landscape from above.
The Dolomites, where I had the chance to experience the fascinating mountain world around the Drei Zinnen while supporting Chrigel Maurer.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON A DAY THAT IS NOT FLYABLE?
When I’m not flying, I like to stay active with a variety of sports. Whether it’s swimming, cycling, hiking, badminton, skiing, or of course running, depending on the season. And when my sports watch tells me it’s time to rest, I enjoy cooking and spending a relaxed evening with friends.
